The Truck Pull

wr1 Marleys Transport will always be remembered for the April 1999 record breaking attempt for the longest road train in the world.

 

 

wr2This record has since been broken several times but recognition should be paid to those people and organizations involved so please read on, plus you never know when Merredin might decide to reclaim it's title.

 

 

wr3The event took place on the 3rd of April 1999 along the Great Eastern Highway in Western Australia between Merredin and Nangeenan. The record was 45 trailers (35 Semi Tippers, 4 stock crates, 2 Freezers, 2 Taut Liners, 1 Flat Top and 1 Tanker, 980 wheels suspended on 245 axels).

The World's Longest Road Train

The Merredin Tourist Bureau, Merredin Nursing Home Appeal, the Lions Club of Merredin and others all recieved funds from the event, which is claimed to be the biggest crowd-puller in Merredin's history, with funds being raised through food, drink and merchandise sales as well as sponsorship of the event.

 

There was a truck parade after the event consisting of over 50 vehicles which drove through the streets of Merredin, which was an impressive sight only surpassed by the record breaking truck pull itself.

The truck which broke the record, no mechanical work was required after the record was set, and the truck was soon back at work for Marleys Transport.

Unofficial reports place around 5000 people at the site of departure.
